Century Cement (B K Birla Group)

This is the accounts department for Century Cement, and we’re part of the B K Birla Group, though it doesn’t feel very corporate when you’re actually sitting here. We are based out of the P.O. Baikunth area in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Our office is where all the numbers come together. It’s a room full of ledgers, calculators, and stacks of invoices that never seem to get smaller. We spend our days tucked away, making sure the math adds up and the payments are going to the right places. The building is older and has that specific smell of old paper and dust that you find in Raipur. It’s not a place with modern art on the walls or fancy coffee machines. We have a water cooler in the corner and a few fans that hum along while we work. Outside, you can hear the sounds of the plant and the trucks moving in and out of the yard. It’s a busy industrial district, but inside the accounts office, we try to keep things as quiet as we can so we can focus on the figures. The heat is always there, especially in the afternoons when the sun hits the side of the building. We just keep our heads down and get through the files. Most of the staff has been here for years, so we have our own way of doing things that might seem a bit old-fashioned to outsiders, but it works for us. It’s a steady, honest job in a hardworking part of the country.
