Adity Birla Public School

The sun gets pretty hot here in Raipur, especially out near the Hirani Cement Works. Adity Birla Public School is tucked right in the Ultra Tech Cement complex, so we see a lot of the same faces every day. It’s mostly the kids of the folks working at the plant. We start the morning early before the dust really kicks up. There is a lot of noise from the machinery nearby sometimes, but the students are used to it by now. The halls get a bit sandy if the wind is blowing the wrong way. Most of the teachers live right here too. We spend our days going from classroom to classroom, trying to keep the fans moving so everyone stays cool. Lunchtime is usually a quick affair in the staff room. You can see the factory chimneys from the playground. It’s a practical kind of place. We don’t have fancy carpets or anything like that. Just desks, blackboards, and a lot of books that have seen better days. When the bell rings at the end of the day, the kids mostly just walk home across the compound. It’s a quiet life in a busy industrial area. We spend a lot of time just making sure the water coolers are filled up and the lessons are ready for the next morning. Sometimes a stray dog wanders into the yard and we have to shoo it out. It’s just how things go here at the works.
