Maity Engineering Works & Builders

We are located right in Village Dasghara, and if you live around Purba Burdwan, you probably know how the roads get during the monsoon season. Our workshop at Maity Engineering Works & Builders is usually a bit messy because there is always something being welded or some wood being cut for a new project. It is not a fancy place with air conditioning or a nice waiting room, just a solid roof and a lot of heavy tools laying around on the wooden benches. My hands are usually covered in grease or gray dust by noon, but that is just how the work goes here in Dhaniayali. We started out small, just taking on minor repairs for our neighbors, and eventually, we began doing more building stuff as more people asked for it. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we have to sit outside and wait for it to come back before we can use the big machines again. It gives us a chance to talk to the people walking by on the main path or have a quick smoke. Most days are spent looking at drawings or trying to figure out why a particular piece of metal won't fit exactly where it is supposed to go. We don't have a big office staff, just a few of us who know how to handle a hammer and a trowel. If you come by, you might find us drinking tea near the entrance while we wait for a delivery truck to show up from the city.
