Our music school is right in the heart of Pune in Sadashiv Peth at house number 8036. If you know Pune, you know that the Peth areas are the soul of the old city. The lanes are narrow and there’s history everywhere you look. Our building is one of those traditional structures that has been around for a long time. When you walk in, you usually hear the sound of someone practicing the harmonium or the tabla. It’s not a soundproofed modern studio. You can hear the sounds of the street outside too, like the bells of cycles or people talking. We teach classical music here in a very simple way. There are no fancy lights or stages. We just sit on the floor on mats and go through the ragas. The atmosphere is very relaxed and a bit old-fashioned. Students of all ages come through the doors, some straight from school and others after their office work. The walls are thin and the rooms are small, but it’s enough for what we do. Sadashiv Peth is a busy place, so finding a spot to park a two-wheeler can be a struggle sometimes. Most people just walk or use the local buses. It’s a place where the music is the only thing that really matters. We don't spend much on advertising. People just know we are here because they hear the music or someone tells them.
