Out here near the Varas Gaon Boating Club, things are a lot quieter than in the city. We started this place in Panshet because it seemed like a good spot for people to see the water. It is not a five-star hotel with gold taps, but we have rooms and some grass for kids to run around on. The drive out here takes some time, especially when the roads get muddy in the monsoon season. We spend a lot of our time fixing things that the rain breaks or painting over damp spots. The wind coming off the water can be quite strong sometimes. Our kitchen makes basic meals, nothing too complicated, just stuff that fills you up after a long day of walking around. Most of our workers live in the nearby villages and walk here every morning. We have some trees that we planted a few years ago that are finally starting to give some real shade. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to go out and check the generator in the dark. It is a bit of a trek to get supplies from the main market, so we have to plan our shopping trips very carefully. We keep the place open all year, but it gets really busy on weekends when families come down to see the dam. It is just a simple place to stay for a night or two while enjoying the fresh air.
