Our shop is number 4, right near the Perfect Bakery in the Bhaji Mandi area of Chandan Nagar. It’s a lively spot to be in because the vegetable market is always going on. You can hear the vendors shouting their prices all morning. By the time the smell of fresh bread comes from the bakery, we are usually already open and setting things up. We have a lot of different sarees tucked into the shelves. It’s a bit of a maze inside because we have so many boxes. Chandan Nagar is a nice place to have a business because people here are friendly. They stop by on their way to buy potatoes or onions just to say hello. We don’t have a fancy website or anything like that. We just have our sign outside and the door is usually propped open with a brick. Inside, we have a few wooden stools for people to sit on while they look at the fabric. The floor is old but we keep it swept. Sometimes the kids from the neighborhood run in and out. It’s a very local kind of atmosphere. We don’t try to be something we are not. We just sell sarees and talk to the people who live around the Bhaji Mandi. It’s a simple life and the shop is a big part of it for us every single day.
