Venkateshwara Engineers

You can find us at 43/4/3 Katraj, right across from the Jogeshwari Mandir. Having the temple right there is nice, you can hear the bells and the prayers sometimes during the day. Venkateshwara Engineers is a small operation, really. We’ve got a couple of lathes and some welding equipment taking up most of the floor space. It’s a bit cramped, especially when we have a few big projects going on at the same time. The floor is always covered in metal shavings, no matter how much we sweep. Most of the guys here have been working with their hands for a long time. We don't really use computers for much other than the basic billing. Usually, someone walks in from the street with a broken part and asks if we can fix it, and we see what we can do. It’s a lot of manual work and getting our hands greasy. We have a small fan in the corner that doesn't do much in the summer, but we keep it running anyway. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we just sit outside on the bench and wait for it to come back. It’s a slow pace compared to the big city shops, but we get the work done. We know most of the neighbors, and they stop by to chat while we’re working. It’s just a local shop doing its thing day after day.
