Treasure Island Resort

You’ll find us at Plot No. 113 in Karla, right across the road from the MTDC. It’s a popular area for people coming out of Mumbai or Pune for a quick break. The resort has been around for quite some time, and it has that lived-in feeling. We have a lot of open space and some trees, which is nice when you’re used to the city. The pool is the main thing people come for, especially the kids. It’s not a giant water park, just a regular pool that we try to keep clean every morning. The rooms are spread out in different blocks. Some of the paint is peeling here and there because of the heavy rains we get in this part of the mountains. We have a dining hall where we serve mostly buffet-style meals because it’s easier with the big groups. The food is simple, local stuff that everyone knows. You have to watch out for the monkeys, though. They like to hang around and see if anyone has left any snacks on the balconies. Our staff is mostly from the local villages around Karla. They are good people who have been with us for a long time. It’s not a luxury getaway, but it’s a place where families can let the kids run around for a bit. We just keep things running the best we can every weekend.
