Acs Engineering Works

We are out at Talwade, Gat No. 78 in Jyotiba Nagar. It’s an industrial area, so it’s always dusty and there is the sound of machines everywhere. Acs Engineering Works is our little workshop. We deal with metal, welding, and fixing things that break. The shop is basically a large shed with a concrete floor. It gets very hot in the summer, so we have these big industrial fans that make a lot of noise. We usually have grease on our hands by ten in the morning. There’s no point in wearing nice clothes here. My brother and a couple of guys from the neighborhood work here with me. We have some old lathes and a welding machine that we’ve had for a decade. It’s reliable stuff. People from the nearby factories bring us parts that need repair. Sometimes we stay late to finish a job if a machine is down and someone is losing money. We don’t have a fancy office or a receptionist. If the phone rings, whoever is closest to it picks it up, usually with a loud voice so they can be heard over the grinding. The tea guy comes around twice a day, and that’s usually when we take a break. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know. The floor is covered in metal shavings most of the time, even though we sweep every evening. It’s just a regular engineering shop doing regular work for the people around Talwade.
