Shrinath Dairy is located at Hadapsar Lal Darwaja. Every morning starts very early for us, long before the sun is up. The milk vans arrive and we have to unload the heavy cans and crates. The floor is usually wet because we are constantly washing the containers and the counters. It smells like fresh milk and curd in here all the time. We have large refrigerators that hum loudly throughout the day. People from the Lal Darwaja neighborhood come in for their daily packets of milk or a container of dahi. We also keep some eggs and butter on the side. It’s a fast pace in the morning, and then it slows down by noon. We use a lot of ice to keep everything cold when the weather gets hot. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to move quickly to protect the stock. We don't have much time for sitting down. Our aprons are always a bit damp. We know which neighbors want their milk delivered and who likes to come and chat for a minute. It’s a simple routine that we’ve followed for years. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us handling the customers and the cleaning. It’s honest work and it keeps the local families supplied with what they need. We don't use any fancy packaging, just the standard bags and containers that people are used to seeing every single day.
