We are located over in Kothrud, and things here start much earlier than in most other businesses. The milk arrives in the dark, and we have to get everything organized before the sun is even up. It’s a bit chilly in the shop because of the refrigeration units humming away. We handle a lot of dairy products, so the smell of fresh milk is everywhere. The address points to Gorwa and Vadodara too, because that’s part of how we get our supplies. The shop itself is simple, with tiled walls that we wash down every day. We spend a lot of time moving crates of milk packets and jars of curd. People come in with their steel containers or just grab a few packets on their way home. It’s a small firm, so we know our customers well. We don’t have fancy advertisements or big signs. The floor is usually a little damp from the condensation, so we have to be careful not to slip. In the afternoons, it gets a bit quieter, and that’s when we do our cleaning and paperwork. We use a simple table for the accounts. It’s hard work, especially the heavy lifting, but it feels good to provide something that everyone needs for their breakfast. We’ve been doing this for years now, and we just keep the milk cold and the doors open for the neighborhood.
