Sarathi Driving School

Our driving school is situated at number 26, right near the RTO office in Chakan. Being so close to the government office is just how we ended up here, but the traffic around here can be quite something. We have a small office space at 122/2/3/4 where we keep the learner permits and the keys for the cars. Most of our day is spent out on the road rather than sitting inside. We have a few older cars that we use for teaching because they are sturdy and don't mind the occasional gear grind. Teaching someone to drive in Pune is always an adventure. You have to be patient when they stall the engine in the middle of a busy intersection. The office has a few benches where students wait for their turn. There’s a map of the local area pinned to the wall that’s started to yellow at the edges. We don’t do anything fancy, just sit next to people and tell them when to brake or shift. The dust from the industrial area nearby gets on everything, so we are always wiping down the dashboards. It’s a basic business, really. We just show up every morning, check the oil and tires, and wait for the first student to arrive. It can be stressful when the RTO inspectors are around, but we’ve been doing this long enough that it’s just part of the routine now.
