At Santkrupa Dairy in Pimpri 21, our day starts before most people are even awake. The milk vans arrive early and we have to get everything moved inside quickly. It’s a lot of heavy lifting with the crates. The shop floor is always a bit wet from the cleaning we do to keep things fresh. We have the usual milk, curd, and some paneer that we keep in the big coolers. Pimpri is a busy area, so by 7 AM there is already a line of people holding their bags. We don't have much time for talking then, but once the morning rush is over, it gets quieter. My brother and I take turns behind the counter. The fridge makes a lot of noise but it’s a sound we’ve gotten used to over the years. We don’t do any fancy packaging. You just get your stuff and go. Sometimes we run out of curd by the afternoon if it's a hot day. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint but we are too busy to worry about that right now. It's a simple business. We provide what the neighborhood needs every single morning. We’ve been at this Pimpri 21 location for quite a while now and everyone knows the timing. It’s hard work but someone has to do it.
