Our shop is over on N C Kelkar Road in Phursungi, specifically at shop number 3. It is a small place but we keep it clean. Every morning starts way before the sun is up because that is when the milk arrives. You can hear the crates clinking on the pavement outside when it is still dark and quiet. By the time most people are waking up, we have already been working for a couple of hours. We handle milk, curd, and whatever else comes in fresh for the day. The fridge hums all day long and it is the main sound you hear inside. We see the same faces every single morning, people coming in for their daily supply before heading to work or taking the kids to school. Sometimes we run out of things earlier than expected and have to tell people to wait until the next delivery. It is a simple routine that does not change much from Monday to Sunday. The floor gets a bit wet from the ice and the bags, so we are always mopping it up. Phursungi is a busy area these days and there is more traffic on the road than there used to be. We have some wooden benches where people sometimes sit for a minute to chat. It is not a fancy store with bright lights, just a regular dairy shop serving the local neighborhood. We just try to keep things moving and stay on top of the daily deliveries.
