Teaching people how to drive around Khondhwa 10 is always an adventure. We start pretty early in the morning when the roads are a bit quieter, but that doesn't last long. The cars we use have seen better days, but they are reliable and have that extra brake on the passenger side which is a lifesaver. Most people who come in are nervous about the clutch or stalling in the middle of a turn. We spend a lot of time sitting in the passenger seat watching the mirrors and hoping no one gets too close. The office is just a small room where we keep the schedules and some old charts about road signs. There’s a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit, but it keeps us cool while we wait for the next student to show up. Sometimes we just stand outside on the pavement and chat while waiting for the car to come back from a lesson. It’s a lot of repetitive work, explaining the same gear shifts over and over, but it’s what we do. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we started, more buildings and more cars everywhere. We try to find quiet backstreets for the beginners so they don't get overwhelmed by the main road traffic. It's just a small local business where we spend most of our day on the road or thinking about the next oil change. We always keep a bottle of water in the car because the afternoon sun really hits the dashboard hard while we're out there.
