Ratan Sweet & Dairy

Over in Sangavi, we run Ratan Sweet & Dairy. It’s a simple shop on a local street. We mostly deal with milk and the basic sweets people eat every day. The fridge is the most important thing we have. If it stops working, we’re in big trouble, so we check it all the time. The morning starts with unloading the milk crates. It’s heavy work and wakes you up fast. We make some fresh sweets in the back, mostly just the common ones that people like. The shop isn't very big, so we have to be careful where we put things. We have a small table where we do all the cutting and weighing. Sometimes the scale is a bit finicky, so we have to tap it to make it settle. Customers from the nearby apartments come in all through the day. We know their names and what they usually buy. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except when the school nearby lets out and the kids come by. We try to keep the place looking decent, but we aren't decorators. The walls are plain and the lighting is just some basic tubes. We focus more on making sure the milk is fresh and the sweets are ready on time. By the time we close the shutters at night, we’re usually pretty tired. It’s just how it goes for us.
