Pillay Auto Traders

Pillay Auto Traders is tucked away behind the Aurora Towers over in the Camp area, right off M G Road. It is a bit of a tricky spot to find if you are not looking for it, but most of the locals know where we are. We deal with auto parts and trading, so there is always grease on someone’s hands and stacks of boxes near the entrance. The air usually smells like oil and rubber, which is pretty standard for this kind of work. We have got a small team here. Most of us have been around cars our whole lives, so we know what we are looking at. This isn't a showroom with shiny floors and glass walls. It is more of a warehouse feel where things are stacked high and the light is a bit dim in the corners. We spend a lot of time on the phone checking for parts or talking to drivers. Sometimes the delivery van gets stuck in the M G Road traffic, so we have to wait around a bit longer than we would like. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; a lot of our notes are still on paper pads. It is just how we have always done it. If you need something for a vehicle, we probably have it buried somewhere in the back. We just get on with the work and try to keep the stock moving. It’s a busy place but we like the pace of it.
