The drive out to Kurkumbh from Pune takes a bit of time, especially with all the heavy trucks on the highway. We are based out in Tal Daund, which is quite an industrial stretch. At the plant, things are mostly about the machines and the polymer processing. It’s a big space, but it always feels full of stuff. There’s a lot of dust because of the area, and the heat in summer can be really something else. We spend our shifts monitoring the output and making sure the engineering side of things doesn't hit a snag. It’s not the kind of place where you wear a suit; it’s more about boots and heavy shirts. The office part of the building is just a few rooms with big windows looking out at the yard. We have these long ledgers for the production numbers and a lot of technical manuals stacked on the metal shelves. Most of the guys working here are from the nearby villages or stay in the staff quarters nearby. Lunch is usually a quick affair in the canteen area. We don't have many visitors, mostly just suppliers or transport drivers coming to pick up a load for the city. The sounds of the equipment running is like background music after you’ve been here for a few months. It’s practical work, and at the end of the day, you definitely feel like you’ve done a full shift. It’s a quiet life out here in the district.
