Our little shop is at 112/B Vishrantwadi. It’s a small place, really, just filled with all sorts of things. We call it Parmar Varieties because we try to keep a bit of everything on the shelves. You never know what someone is going to walk in and ask for. One day it’s a specific kind of lightbulb and the next it’s some household item we haven't seen in months. We spend a lot of time just rearranging the boxes so we can fit more stuff in. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes when there are more than three people inside. The neighborhood is mostly families, so we know most of the faces that come through the door. We aren't trying to be like the big supermarkets or anything. We just like being the place where you can grab what you need on your way home. My cousin helps out in the afternoons and we usually have the radio playing in the background. The counter is a bit scratched up and the ceiling fan makes a clicking noise, but it’s our space. We’ve been here in Vishrantwadi for a while now and the locals seem to like having us around. We don't do fancy advertising or anything like that. We just open the shutters in the morning and see who comes by. It’s a simple way to make a living and we’re happy with it. We hope to stay right here at 112/B for years.
