Our little shop is over in Karvenagar, specifically at shop number six in the Kiran Barate chawl near Vikas Chowk. It’s a lively spot in Pune. If you are looking for us, we are right there on survey fifty-five. It’s not a huge showroom with fancy lights and air conditioning that makes you shiver. It’s just a regular place where we deal with gold and pearls. Most mornings, I come in, sweep the front bit, and set things up. The pearls take a lot of patience to sort through. You have to look at the shine and the shape, and sometimes your eyes get tired by the afternoon. We see a lot of local faces from around the chawl and the nearby buildings. People stop by to chat or ask about a price while they are out getting their groceries. It is a simple way of doing things. We don’t have a big staff, just a couple of us making sure everything is handled properly. Sometimes the traffic at Vikas Chowk gets a bit loud, but you get used to the horns and the people shouting. We keep the pearls tucked away safely and show them when someone asks. It is practical work. We aren't trying to be something we aren't. Just a local Pune business keeping the daily grind going. Every piece we handle gets our full attention because that is how we were taught to work and live here.
