Ramnagar Road is always full of mud when it rains. I’ve been working at M.S Engineering Co for a long time now. My hands are mostly stained with grease and bits of metal shavings. We spend most of the day cutting steel or trying to fix some motor that a farmer brought in from the outskirts. It is loud here because of the lathe and the grinding wheels, so you have to shout to be heard. I don’t mind the noise much anymore. The shop is tucked away and doesn't look like much from the outside. We have piles of scrap iron in the corner that I keep meaning to clear out but never get around to. People come to us when they can't find a specific part or need something welded back together. It’s practical work. My workbench is a bit of a disaster with tools scattered everywhere. I know where everything is, though. Sometimes we stay late when a job is urgent, eating lunch quickly on a wooden stool while the machines cool down. It’s not fancy or clean, and the air always smells like hot metal and oil. We just keep our heads down and do the work that comes our way. Ramnagar is a hardworking area and we fit right in with the other workshops nearby. There's no big sign or anything, just the sound of the hammer hitting the anvil and the smell of the welding torch. We finish the day tired and ready for home.
