Marathi & Kannada School

Our Marathi & Kannada School is located at Sr No.21/2 Sainikwadi in the Vadgaon Sheri area of Pune. It’s an interesting place because we have two languages going on at the same time. You’ll hear kids talking in Marathi in one corner and Kannada in another, and often they mix them up. The school is right in a residential pocket of 411014, so it feels very much like a part of the neighborhood. The building is simple, with basic classrooms and a small area where we have our daily prayers. We don't have much in the way of fancy equipment, just some charts on the walls and plenty of chalk. The teachers here are used to switching between languages all day. On rainy days, the kids all huddle inside, and the hallways get pretty loud. We have a lot of families from different backgrounds who send their children here because they want them to stay connected to their roots. The walk to school is short for most, as they live just around the corner. Sometimes we have small events where the kids perform, but mostly it’s just the daily routine of reading and writing. The desks are a bit shaky and the playground is mostly just a patch of ground, but it’s enough for the games they play. We just try to make sure every child gets some attention and learns their lessons before the final bell rings at three o'clock every day.
