Manjula Saree

Our shop is inside the Supriya Sankul housing society complex on Baner Road. Being in a residential area means we see the same faces quite often. We’ve been here in Pune for a while now. It’s not a flashy showroom with bright lights and mirrors everywhere. It’s more like a comfortable room where you can look at sarees without feeling rushed. We have stacks of different materials, from cotton to more traditional types. My sisters and I run the place mostly. We handle everything from the cleaning to the bookkeeping ourselves. Baner has changed a lot over the years, becoming so busy, but our little corner remains pretty much the same. We don’t use any complicated systems. If you want to see something, we just pull it off the shelf and unfold it for you. There is usually a bit of thread on the floor and the smell of fresh fabric in the air. We don't have a big sign outside, just enough for people to find us. Most people come in because they live nearby in the 411027 area. We aren't trying to compete with the big city stores. We just like having a place where we can show beautiful sarees to people who appreciate them. It's a modest business, and we are quite content with that. We just take it one customer at a time and hope they find something they like.
