You can find us in Shivaji Nagar 8, right where the city feels the loudest. M K Hotel is an old building and it has its quirks, like the way the stairs creak when someone walks up late at night. We spend most of our time at the small reception desk or checking the rooms. The laundry arrives in big bundles every morning, and we have to sort through all the sheets and towels. Shivaji Nagar is a busy area, so there’s always the sound of horns and buses coming through the windows. We try to keep the rooms tidy, but it's hard work when guests are coming and going constantly. The lobby has a few chairs that have seen better days, but they’re comfortable enough for a short wait. I spend a lot of time answering the landline and writing names down in the big register book. We don't have an elevator, so we end up walking up and down a lot. Sometimes the water pressure is a bit low, and we have to fix the pump in the back. It’s a simple place for people who need a bed for the night. We don't offer much else besides a roof and a lock on the door. In the evening, I usually sit outside for a bit to watch the traffic before the night shift starts. It’s just a basic hotel run by a few of us.
