Lakshmi Balaji Icecream

We run Lakshmi Balaji Icecream over in the Warje area, right by Kastur Park on Shimpoli Road. It’s a small shop where we keep several deep freezers running all day and night. You can usually hear the hum of the compressors from the sidewalk. We carry a bunch of different flavors, mostly the ones that local kids and families like. It gets really crowded in the evenings when the sun goes down and people come out for a walk in the park. We keep the place clean, though the floor gets sticky sometimes when it's busy. We don't have many tables, so most people just take their cones and walk around. My cousin and I take turns behind the counter. We’ve been here at this spot for quite a few seasons now. The Shimpoli Road area has a lot of walkers, so we stay open until the street lights go dim. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to worry about the stock melting, but we have a backup plan for that. It’s not a big corporate chain; it’s just us selling cold treats to the neighbors. We know most of the regulars by their favorite flavors. It’s a nice way to spend the day, seeing people happy with a simple scoop of ice cream. Nothing too fancy, just honest work and cold sweets for the local community.
