Teaching people to drive in Pune is something else, especially around the Yerawada area. We are based out of Yashwant Nagar in Katarwadi and it is a busy little spot. We have a couple of cars that are almost always on the move from early in the morning. You see all kinds of people coming in wanting to learn. Some are young kids who are excited and others are older folks who are quite nervous about getting behind the wheel for the first time. We spend hours every day sitting in the passenger seat, keeping an eye on the mirrors and our foot ready on the dual brake. The roads around here can be tricky with all the bikes and the narrow turns, so it takes a lot of patience. We don't have a fancy office, just a small place where people come to sign up and drop off their photos for the forms. We talk about gears, clutches, and how to park without hitting the curb. It’s a lot of repeating the same instructions over and over until the student finally gets it. When someone finally passes their test and gets their license, it feels like a good day's work. We’ve been in this part of Pune for a while and most people know our cars by the name on the side. We just keep things moving and try to stay out of the way of the heavy traffic.
