About Institute Of Oriental Music – Education in Pune
At the Institute Of Oriental Music, things are usually pretty loud, but in a good way. We are located at Sadashiv Peth Nav Ankur 5/760. It’s an old building with a lot of character, though the stairs can be a bit of a climb. You can usually hear someone practicing a sitar or a flute from the street before you even get inside. We have various rooms set up for different instruments. It is not the most modern space, but it works for what we need. We spend our days teaching people the basics and watching them get better over time. Sometimes the instruments need tuning or a string breaks right in the middle of a lesson. That’s just how it goes here. We don’t have a big front desk or a receptionist in a suit. Usually, one of us just meets you at the door. Sadashiv Peth is a busy neighborhood so there is always something happening outside. We’ve been here long enough that most of the neighbors know us by the sound. We don't really follow a strict corporate schedule; things happen when they happen. If a student is late because of traffic, we just start whenever they arrive. It’s a bit informal but we think that helps people feel more at ease when they are trying to learn a difficult piece of music. We just love being around the sounds all day.
