Hotel Kunal

If you go down to Kalewadi, you’ll find Hotel Kunal. It’s been sitting there for quite some time now. We aren't really a hotel where you stay the night, it’s more of a place to get a good, solid meal. The name is just what we called it when we started. The kitchen is the heart of the whole operation. We start prep work pretty early, chopping vegetables and getting the spices ready. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so you’ll usually see the same few people behind the counter or bringing out the plates. The furniture is simple wood and metal, nothing fancy. We get a lot of workers from the nearby areas coming in for lunch because they know they can get a plate of food quickly. The walls have a few marks on them, and the floor is worn down in spots where people walk the most, but that just shows we’ve been busy. We don't really advertise or do anything like that. Word of mouth usually brings people in. It can get pretty hot in the kitchen, so we keep the fans going all day long. It's a noisy place with the sound of pans clanging and people talking, but it feels alive. We just want to serve food that fills you up so you can get back to your day. That's really all there is to it.
