The Gurukul Music Academy is located on Camp Rajgopala Main Road over in Ganapathinagar. We’re at number 675. It’s a place that stays pretty noisy most of the time, but in a good way, I think. We have different rooms where people can practice, so you might hear a violin in one corner and someone hitting a drum in another. The building is an old one, and the floors creak when you walk across them, especially in the hallway where the parents wait. We have some instruments that have been around for years, with scratches and marks on them from all the hands that have played them. It’s not a fancy conservatory or anything like that. It’s just a spot for people in Ganapathinagar who want to learn a few tunes or get better at an instrument they like. We spend a lot of time tuning things and putting away sheet music that gets left on the stands. In the evenings, when the school kids arrive, the energy really picks up and the sound carries out onto the main road. We keep a few fans going because it gets stuffy with the doors closed to keep the sound in. Sometimes we have tea in the back room and talk about what songs we’re working on. We don't have any big goals other than just keeping the music going every day. It’s a bit messy with cables and instrument cases everywhere, but we like it that way.
