Guru Nanak Gurmat Sangeet Academy

The academy is right here in Hadapsar, just opposite Padamavati Nagar, at unit 302. It is usually a bit noisy around Guru Nanak Gurmat Sangeet Academy because of the instruments. We have kids and adults coming in to learn Kirtan and traditional music. Most days, you can hear the harmonium or the tabla from the hallway before you even reach the door. It isn't a massive place, just a few rooms where we sit on the floor and practice the notes. The floors are a bit scuffed from people moving around, and the walls have some old posters about music theory. We keep the instruments lined up against the wall when they aren't being used. Hadapsar is a busy area, so there is always some background noise from the street, but we get used to it. Sometimes the tea kettle is going in the back room while someone struggles with a difficult raga. It is just a place for learning the old ways of singing and playing. We don't have fancy recording studios or anything like that. Just the basic stuff needed to teach the students properly. Everyone knows each other here. It feels more like a community center than a formal school. We just show up every day, tune the strings, and get to work with whoever walks in for their lesson. It keeps us busy and the atmosphere is always lively with music. I guess we’ve been here long enough that the neighbors don't mind the noise anymore.
