Gelato Italiano

You can find us at Shop No 3 in Sayali Terrace, right there in Anand Park off ITI Road. This is Gelato Italiano, though it's just a small corner really. Aundh is always busy, so there’s usually someone walking past the window. We spend a lot of time cleaning the glass display and making sure the scoops are lined up. It’s a bit different from the other shops because it’s a bit tucked away. We get a lot of students and families coming in after they’ve had their dinner nearby. The freezer makes a constant humming sound that you get used to after an hour or so. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to scramble to keep things cold, which is always a bit stressful. We aren't a big fancy cafe with sofas. It’s more of a place where you grab something and keep walking. The staff here is just a few of us who live nearby. We don't wear suits or anything, just our aprons. Usually, it's quiet in the afternoons when it's hot outside, then it picks up when the sun goes down. We keep the floor swept and the napkins stocked up. It’s a simple job, really. Just serving scoops to people who want something cold on a hot afternoon in Pune. Nothing fancy about the way we do things here. The trash bin outside gets full pretty quickly on the weekends when the kids are out. We have to keep an eye on it or it gets messy. The sidewalk in front of Sayali Terrace is a bit uneven, so people sometimes trip. We have a small sink in the back that leaks a little.
