Gauri Shankar Hotel

We are located at 466 Sadashiv Peth, right in the middle of one of the oldest parts of the city. Calling it a hotel is just the old-fashioned way of saying it’s a place to eat. It’s a small, traditional space with high ceilings and old wooden benches that have been there forever. We don’t have a menu with fifty items or any modern decor or lighting. It’s mostly just tea, some snacks, and a simple daily meal for those who want it. The kitchen is small and cramped, and it gets very loud when we are busy during the lunch hour. Most of our customers are students or people who work in the nearby shops in the Peth. They don’t come here for a fancy experience; they just want a quick bite that tastes like home cooking. We’ve been here a long time, and the building shows its age, but we try to keep it decent for everyone. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the fans make a bit of a clicking noise, but nobody seems to mind much. I’m usually at the counter or helping out in the back with the washing. It’s a lot of work keeping up with the cleaning and the cooking every single day. We don't have a big team, just a few of us doing everything. It’s a quiet, honest place that has stayed the same while the city changed.
