Ganesh General Stores

If you find yourself on Sahakar Nagar Road in the Parvati Darshan area of Pune, you might see Ganesh General Stores. We are tucked into the Laxmi Nagar neighborhood, which is usually quite lively throughout the day. The shop itself is packed with all sorts of things, maybe a bit too much sometimes because we hate to run out of anything. Pune weather is mostly nice, but when it rains, we have to move some of the display items further inside so they do not get wet. We have been in this spot for a while, and the walls show a bit of that age. It is a small space, so we have to be clever about where we put the bigger bags and the smaller jars. Most of our morning is spent just seeing what the local families are looking for and trying to keep the milk and bread supplies steady. It is not a place with air conditioning or sliding glass doors, just a regular counter and a lot of shelves reaching up to the ceiling. Sometimes the neighborhood kids come in for a single piece of candy, and other times it is a grandmother looking for a specific brand of tea. We just keep the door open and wait for whoever comes by. It is a quiet life, mostly, just keeping the books balanced and the floor swept. There is always a bit of chatter with the neighbors while we work, which makes the long hours go by faster.
