About G L Samant Tabla Classes – Education in Pune
If you are walking through Sadashiv Peth and you hear the sound of drums, that might be us. We are located at 1709/2. It is an old-school kind of place. I have been teaching tabla here for a long time now. The room isn't very big, and it is usually filled with the smell of tea and old wood. We have mats on the floor where the students sit. It is not a formal academy with a front desk or anything like that. People just come in, sit down, and we start practicing. I try to show them the rhythms and how to use their hands properly. Some students are quick and some take a lot of time to learn the basic strokes, but I do not mind either way. Sadashiv Peth is a busy part of town, so sometimes the traffic noise outside competes with the music inside. We just play louder. I do not use a lot of fancy books or computers to teach. It is mostly just listening and repeating. It is hard on the fingers at first, but people get used to it after a few weeks. My neighbors are used to the noise by now, or at least they do not complain to my face. It is a simple life of music and teaching. I am usually here every evening if you want to see what a class looks like.
