Down at 46-2 Nike Chowl in Datta Nager, our small engineering shop sits. It’s near the Katraj Tathawade area, so there’s always people moving about. The shop isn't much to look at from the outside. We have a heavy iron door that stays open all day. Inside, it smells like burnt metal and coolant. We’ve got a few old lathes and some hand tools that have seen better days but still work just fine. My cousin helps out when things get busy. We don’t have a big philosophy or anything. If a part needs turning or a piece needs welding, we do it. Some days are slow and we just clean the tools. Other days, we’re working late into the evening by the light of a single bulb. The floor is always covered in those little metal curls from the machines. You have to watch where you step. It’s a bit cramped because we keep adding more materials in the corners. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in Pune. We just want to do the work that comes to us from the local guys. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the back window, but we put a bucket there and keep working. It’s just how it is. No fancy talk, just handles and gears and getting things sorted.
