Dhanlaxami General Stores

We’ve been at Kalewadi 8 for a while now. We open up pretty early to get the milk and fresh bread ready before the morning rush starts. It’s a small space but we cram a lot into it. From soaps and detergents to pulses and snacks for the kids coming home from school in the afternoon. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty because of the road right outside, but we keep cleaning the counters throughout the day. People come in to chat as much as they do to buy stuff, which makes the day go by faster. It’s not a fancy supermarket, just a regular shop where we know most of the faces. The shelves are packed tight. My hands are usually busy counting change or stocking packets of biscuits and tea. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us making sure everything stays in order. Sometimes the delivery trucks are late and we have to tell people to come back tomorrow for their favorite brand. It's just how it goes here. We try to keep what people ask for most. If someone needs a specific spice or a school notebook, we try to have it. The lights are a bit dim in the back corner, but we know where everything is. It’s a simple life at Dhanlaxami General Stores. We deal with the daily rush and the quiet afternoons when the sun is hot outside. No big signs or flashing lights, just our door open to the street in Kalewadi. The glass on the front counter has a few scratches from all the years of people sliding coins across it. We keep the snacks right where the kids can reach them. It's a bit cramped when more than three people come in at once, but we make it work. We are just a part of the neighborhood here at Kalewadi 8.
