We’re over in Kothrud, at the Gruhrachana Society 3. It’s a bit quieter here than the main roads, which is nice most days. Working at Baskin Robbins means we spend a lot of time around the big freezers. You can always hear them humming in the background. It stays pretty cool inside, which is a relief when it’s hot outside. We spend most of our shift scooping ice cream and trying to keep the counters from getting sticky. It’s harder than it looks because sugar gets everywhere. We see a lot of families from the society coming in after dinner. It’s a bit of a routine for some of them. We don't really have a big staff, just a couple of us who take turns behind the counter. We spend the slow times restocking the spoons or cleaning the glass on the display cases. It’s not the most exciting work, but it’s fine. We don't have any big speeches about what we do. We just sell ice cream and try to make sure the freezer doesn't break down. When the kids come in, it gets a bit noisy, but they usually leave pretty fast. It’s a steady kind of life. We just open up in the morning and close when the lights go out at night. Sometimes the chocolate syrup pump gets clogged and we have to take the whole thing apart to fix it. That's usually the most drama we get in a day.
