We are located in the Chikhlee SDP College Market at 67/2. It is a noisy area with all the students and the other shops nearby. Amman Engineering is basically just a workshop where we handle a lot of metal work and mechanical repairs. The floor is usually covered in some kind of metal shavings or oil, no matter how much we sweep it. We have a few big machines that take up most of the room. I started this place a long time ago because I liked working with my hands more than sitting at a desk. My hands are usually stained with grease by lunchtime. We don’t have a front office or a receptionist. If you come in, you just talk to whoever isn’t currently running a lathe or a drill. It’s simple work but it requires a lot of focus so we don’t make mistakes on the measurements. The heat gets a bit much in the summer since the roof is just tin, but we have a couple of big fans that move the air around. We get a lot of local guys coming in with parts that need welding or fixing. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know how to do. We just keep our heads down and get the tasks done one by one. Most days we close up once the sun goes down and the market gets a little quieter.
