A. K. Steel

Our shop is right opposite Pratibha College in Block D3 of Kalbhor Nagar. If you know the MIDC area in Chinchwad, you probably know how busy these streets get with trucks and workers. A. K. Steel is basically a place where we handle a lot of metal rods, sheets, and pipes. It is a heavy job. We spend most of the morning unloading deliveries that come in from the main suppliers. The sound of steel clanging against steel is the background music of our lives here in Pimpri-Chinchwad. We have been in this spot for a while now, and we know most of the neighbors, from the college kids walking by to the other shop owners in the block. The office is just a small corner partitioned off from the main storage area. It gets quite dusty with all the grinding and moving around, so we are always sweeping up. We don't do much fancy advertising. Most people just see the sign when they are driving through MIDC and stop by if they need a few lengths of steel for a construction project or some repair work. It is physically demanding work, especially when the sun is hitting the metal roofs in the afternoon. We just keep our heads down, count the inventory, and make sure the customers get exactly what they weighed out.
