Puranpur Sharda Sagar Mahila Kisan Utpadak Producer Company Limited

This is a group run by women here in Puranpur. We are based in Dhakiyat, Maharajpur. If you are looking for us, we are at P-109, which is Urmila Mandal’s place. We are all women who have been farming for most of our lives. It is tough work, but being together in this producer company makes it feel a bit lighter. We named it Sharda Sagar after the water source we use. Most of us grow what we can and then we figure out how to sell it together. The office is just Urmila’s front room. That is where we gather after we are done with the chores in the field. We sit around and talk about things like seeds, the price of fertilizer, and how our families are doing. It is a real community project. We don't have a bunch of employees, just us doing the work. Sometimes our husbands help with the really heavy bags, but for the most part, we handle it ourselves. We aren't trying to build an empire. We just want to make sure we get a fair deal for the work we put in. The days are long and we are usually very tired. We have a lot of meetings, though they feel more like neighbors chatting than business. Puranpur is where we belong and we are just trying to make a decent life through farming and cooperation.
