We are tucked away in Kankarbagh, Patna. If you’ve ever spent time in Kankarbagh, you know how busy the lanes can get with cycles, rickshaws, and people everywhere. Our building is a bit older, with the kind of stairs that have been worn down a little over the years. We have a few rooms dedicated to the classes. The windows stay open most of the time to let in some air, even if that means a bit of noise comes in from the street. It’s a very local vibe here. We know the neighbors and the shopkeepers nearby. Inside, the walls are a light shade of cream, mostly covered with maps or some student work. The benches are the old-fashioned kind, sturdy but not exactly soft. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us who manage everything from cleaning the boards to talking to the parents who stop by in the evenings. Patna summers are tough, so we have the big fans going full speed. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just have to wait it out or use the emergency light. It’s not a polished corporate office. It’s just a place in the neighborhood where students come to sit and read. We keep it simple because that’s what works for us. There’s always a pile of umbrellas by the door during the monsoon season.
