Usha Destination

Down here in Hilsa, Bihar, we run Usha Destination. It’s a small operation based out of Daroga Kuman. We started this because travel can be a real headache if you don't have someone local to help you out with the details. We aren't a big fancy agency with hundreds of employees. It’s just a few of us sitting in the office, answering phones and trying to figure out the best bus or train routes for people in the area. India is a big country and getting from one place to another isn't always easy. We spend a lot of time looking at schedules and calling up transporters. Sometimes the roads are bad or the trains are late, and we have to spend the whole afternoon re-booking things. We don't use much marketing; mostly people just hear about us from their neighbors or see our sign when they're walking through Hilsa. We keep our records in notebooks and on an old computer that sometimes takes its time. It’s a simple life and a simple business. We just want to help our neighbors get to their destinations without getting overcharged or lost. We know the local routes around Bihar really well. If you come by, you’ll probably find us drinking tea and staring at a map. We don’t make big promises, we just do the work and try to stay organized. It’s honest work and we like being part of the town.
