Suman Shringar

Down in Patna, specifically on the Main Road in Postal Park, you’ll find Suman Shringar. This isn't a place for heavy groceries; instead, we focus on the things that make people feel a bit better about themselves. We have rows of bangles in every color you can think of, and the glass cases are filled with various creams, bindis, and hair oils. The 800001 area is quite crowded, and being on the main road means we see a lot of foot traffic. Women from the neighborhood often come in groups to pick out matching accessories for a wedding or just to see what new shades of nail polish have arrived. I try to keep the shop organized, but with so many small items, something is always out of place. It’s a friendly atmosphere, and there’s usually a lot of chatter and laughing going on while people try things on. I’ve learned a lot about what people like over the years just by listening to them talk at the counter. The lighting inside has to be bright so people can see the colors properly, which makes the shop stand out when it gets dark outside. Patna summers are tough, but we have a good ceiling fan that keeps the air moving. It’s a small business, just me and occasionally a family member helping out during the festival seasons when things get really hectic.
