S. K. Bricks

Out here in Punpun, near the Parsa Police Station, we spend our days dealing with clay and heat. Our brick kiln is right in the Patna Sadar area. It's a bit of a drive from the main city, but we like it here. The work is hard and it depends a lot on the weather. If it rains, everything slows down. We've got a group of workers who have been with us for years. We make standard red bricks that go into most of the houses being built around the district. You can see the tall chimney from a distance. It's not a quiet place, there's always the sound of trucks coming in and out. We load them up and send them off to various construction sites. Living and working near the post office in Parsa means we are part of the local community. Everyone knows where the brickyard is. We don't have a big office or anything, just a small shed where we keep the accounts. It gets very hot in the summer, but that's actually good for drying the bricks. We've got piles of finished stock ready most of the time. People come by to check the quality before they buy. We show them around, let them see how we fire the kiln. It's a straightforward business. We just make bricks and sell them to whoever needs them for their walls and buildings.
