Down in Howrah, we are based in the Old Narayan Building on Belilious Road. It’s an old structure, as the name says, and we are up in Flat 201. The address is 374/376/1, and it’s a bit of a squeeze getting up the stairs if you’re carrying anything heavy. The walls in the hallway are a bit stained and the wiring is all over the place, but that’s just how these old buildings in West Bengal are. Inside the office for Flightraja Travels, things are a bit more organized, though we still have piles of paper everywhere. The windows look out over the street, which is always noisy with horns and people shouting. It’s a busy part of town, being so close to the industrial heart of Howrah. The air is often thick with dust and exhaust, so we keep the windows shut most of the time. We’ve got a couple of ceiling fans that creak a bit when they’re on high speed. The tea man from downstairs brings us chai in little glass cups twice a day. It’s a functional space, mostly just desks and old cupboards for the files. We don’t really bother with decorations or fancy lights. It’s just a place to sit and work through the bookings. Sometimes the water in the tap runs slow, but we manage. It’s our little corner in a very crowded city.
