Out here at Gat No. 523 in Dusarbid, you’ll find the Mabhagirathi Farmer Producer Company Limited. We are right near the Changefal area in Sindhkhed Raja. It’s a busy spot for us, especially when the planting season starts. We have a lot of farmers coming through to talk about what’s going on with their land. The company was set up because we needed a way to pool our resources. It’s much harder to get things done when you’re just one person with a few acres. Here, we can talk about sharing tools or buying fertilizer together so it doesn't cost us an arm and a leg. The office is pretty plain, just a spot to keep things organized. We aren't polished business people; we are just guys who know how to work the soil. Sometimes the weather in Sindhkhed Raja doesn't play fair, and we have to sit around and figure out a backup plan. There is a lot of paperwork involved in running a producer company, more than we expected, but we manage it bit by bit. We don't have any big corporate goals, just the hope that we can keep our farms running for another year. People drop by at all hours to ask about prices or just to see what’s happening. It’s a community thing more than anything else. We just want to do right by the people here in Dusarbid and keep the land productive for the next generation.
