Up in the Damin area of Koloriang, the terrain is pretty rugged. Tullo Dumcho Organic Navkrishak Farmers Producer Company Limited operates out of Taba, near where Yamra Tama lives. It’s a quiet corner of Kurung Kumey, far away from the noise of the bigger towns in Arunachal Pradesh. Our group is made of folks who live right here in the hills. We spend our days tending to the slopes, making sure the soil doesn't wash away and the plants are getting what they need. We don't have much in the way of high-tech equipment. Most of what we do is done with basic tools and a lot of sweat. We formed this collective because it’s tough to be a lone farmer in a place like this. When we work together, we can figure out how to get our produce down the mountain and to the people who want to buy it. We don't mess with chemicals or fancy additives. We just let the sun and the rain do most of the work, while we keep the weeds at bay. It’s a simple way of living, but it’s what we know. Sometimes the winter is long and the work is slow, but we use that time to plan for the next spring. We’re just a bunch of neighbors trying to make the most of what the land gives us.
