Out in Sarli Town, things are pretty remote. Dokum Dopa Organic Navkrishak Farmers Producer Company Limited is based over in Wabia, managed from Tamin Bai’s place. This part of Kurung Kumey is beautiful, but it’s a hard place to make a living if you’re just one person. That’s why we got together. We’re all farmers from the local villages who want to see our community do better. We spend most of our time out in the fields, dealing with whatever the weather throws at us. Some days it’s scorching hot, and other days the rain won't stop for a week. We grow our crops without any of those modern chemicals because we want to keep the land healthy for our kids. It’s slower that way, and you lose some to bugs now and then, but we think it’s the right way to do it. Our meetings are usually held outdoors or in someone’s living room, talking about the price of seeds or how to fix a broken fence. We don't have a big corporate structure. It’s just us, the farmers, trying to find a way to get our produce to the markets without losing money. It takes a lot of patience and a lot of walking, but we’re used to that. We just take it one day at a time and hope for a good harvest.
