You can find us over at Balraj Singh’s place in Jattipur, Panipat. He is the son of Balwant Singh, and their family has been here for a long time. We focus mostly on vegetables because that is what the soil around here is good for. Panipat is known for a lot of things, but for us, it is all about what we can grow in the ground. We are a small group of vegetable growers who wanted to make sure our tomatoes and cauliflowers and everything else actually made it to the market while they were still fresh. It is a lot of work, getting up before the sun to pick everything and then sorting it out. We don't have a big warehouse or fancy cooling systems, just our hands and the local trucks. Balraj’s house is where we meet to figure out who is growing what and when it will be ready. It’s a very local thing. We don't have any big corporate goals. We just want to make a decent living so we can keep our farms going. Sometimes things don't go as planned, like when the weather turns bad or the prices drop suddenly, but we just keep at it. That is the life of a farmer in Jattipur. We are just a bunch of neighbors working together to sell our vegetables and look after our families.
