Gautam Marble

We have been here on Sojat Road for quite some time now. Most days it is just about moving heavy slabs of marble and making sure the dust doesn't get everywhere, though it always does. People come by looking for something for their kitchens or their floors and we just show them what we have piled up in the back. There is no big showroom or anything fancy here. It is mostly just us and the stone. Sometimes the weather gets really hot and we have to slow down the loading, but otherwise, we are just working through the piles. We keep different types of stones that come in from the nearby quarries. It is loud when the trucks arrive and we have to clear the space. Some folks want pieces cut to a certain size and we try to get that done with the tools we have. It’s a lot of physical work and my hands are usually grey by the end of the day. The shop stays open until the sun goes down mostly. We don’t really do much advertising because everyone around here knows where the marble yard is. It’s just a regular place where we sell what we have and try to keep things moving. Sometimes the inventory changes fast and other times the same slabs sit there for a month. We just deal with it as it comes and wait for the next truck to arrive with more material for the yard.
